Praying With Scriptures VS Praying Scriptures!!! breaking the hold of Marijuana.
It’s been almost 17 years now that I smoked the last wrap of Indian hemp or cigarette after almost 8 years of addiction…it’s okay, stop looking that shocked. I never told you I was born biologically a NEW MAN…it was in Christ that i became regenerated.
This was the second most deadly habit I had to struggle with when I received eternal life…I read every book on how to stop smoking but I was just caught in this web of addiction. Thing about addictions generally is that it usually starts with pleasure…then you get pressured to always do it then you get tortured when you try not to do it because your body almost can’t do without it.
I knew I had to stop…something in me had changed and now beckoned on me to stop but I was hooked.
Many Christians weren’t nice then….they always had this judgmental look as though…”AND HE CALLED HIMSELF A CHRISTIAN”
They often told me I needed to stop all my crazy habits…truth is I knew I should too but HOW…many couldn’t help me. They condemned me but didn’t show me the way out….it only drove me farther from God. The guilt was crippling.
Finally i got to speak with a dear brother…one I will never forget in the history of my development as a believer…HE SAID, YOU HAVE TO GET INTO THE WORD MUYIWA. It will break the hold of those habits. So I will take scriptures and like
Romans 6:14
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
I will then start begging God to do what he promised in this verse in my life…Well unfortunately nothing happened.
Reason was…it wasn’t right praying REALLY. That scripture was not a promise but rather a statement of fact. If it was a promise…you could take it up in prayer and petition God about that…..that’s what I call PRAYING WITH SCRIPTURES…Holding on to a promise and making your request accordingly.
But there are certain things that are our legal realities in Christ REALLY. They have been done for us already. It’s been concluded and finished for us. It was part of the REDEMPTIVE package…I advise you not to pray with this scripture in Petition or Prayer of Request but rather PRAY THÖSE SCRIPTURES INTO YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS.
So the Holy Spirit told me to take Romans 6 and pray it into my consciousness. I remember I will wake up every morning and go to a quiet place where I could pray…I WILL GO OVER those VERSES especially from Verse 5. Romans 6:5-23 I mean. I will read the verse out loud to myself several times and spend some minutes praying in tongues.
I will go through every verse like this. One thing I noticed as I began this spiritual exercise was something in me got stronger to say no to the commanding urge I couldn’t resist before. I could now walk away. It wasn’t always that I did that….walking away I mean… but I started gaining control from within. I began to see myself in the light of what had been done for me…I was no longer the victim begging God…I was the victor living in the reality of who God has made me…
LET’S SPEND A LOT OF TIME PRAYING SCRIPTURES. IT’S GOOD TO PRAY WITH SCRIPTURES NO DOUBT, BUT IT CAN BE EQUALLY REWARDING PRAYING INTO YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS THE REALITY OF THE NEW MAN IN CHRIST ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURES.
