WHY YOU NEED TO STUDY GOD’S WORD
The reason many people don’t study is because they do not understand why they should. Here are few reasons you need to study God’s Word.
1. The Word of God is food for your recreated human spirit. There is no growth without the Word. Fish cannot survive out of water because they are born of it, so also trees cannot survive in the air except their roots are in the ground because God commanded trees out of the ground. So also, you are born of the incorruptible seed of God’s Word, (1 Peter 1:23) hence, your spirit cannot survive without it.
2. God does nothing outside His Word. Everything you would ever need in life, from birth to death is in the Word. There is no need in your life that the Word cannot meet. The written Word is the provision of God for your destiny.
3. All things were made by the Word of God. If you want to see anything in your life, create it with the Word. Everything responds to GOD’s Word. Whether situations, sickness, lack, name it. John 1:3: All things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made that was made.
Hebrews 11:3: By faith, we understand that THE WORLDS WERE FRAMED BY THE WORD OF GOD, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
4. If you want to know the voice of God, sit with His word. Hebrews 1: 1-2: God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us BY HIS SON, whom He has appointed heir of all things , trough whom also He made the worlds.
If you want to know God and how He speaks, study His Word.
5. Christ is The Word personified. The whole bible is centred on Him. It is the knowledge of Christ and who you are in Him that will mature you spiritually. 2Peter 3:18: but grow in grace and KNOWLEDGE OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST….
Before you study, ensure you pray. Without engaging the Holy Spirit, studying will be boring. Always engage the ministry of prayer before the Word.
HOW TO STUDY
1. Get different versions of the bible. New King James version and Amplifed bible are very good and simple. It will aid your learning swiftly.
2. Eat the right diet. Epistles are balanced for a new man in Christ because it contains the revelation of Christ and who you are in Him. In the old testament, Christ was concealed but in the new testament, He was revealed. When you understand the new testament especially the epistles, you will understand the old. Because the old testament must be interpreted in the light of the new testament. You must see Christ in it. Acts 28:23: So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God. Persuading them CONCERNING JESUS from both the law of Moses and the prophets from morning till evening.
3. Study in context, contextual knowledge is the basis for revelation knowledge. If you are always looking for a revelation without having a strong contextual understanding, you will misinterpret the Word. However revelation knowledge is highly important.
4. Topical or doctrinal study.
You can pick a subject like ‘righteousness’, or ‘Holy Spirit’ and begin to study everything the scripture has said concerning it. Never lift a scripture out of context to establish a subject, you must interpret every scripture in the light of another. Check through the bible to see what was said about the same subject matter, write them down. It will eventually become wholesome.
Out of the mouth of two to three witnesses, THE TRUTH IS ESTABLISHED.
5. Take note of tenses and punctuations. Also, read out loud, it facilitates understanding.
Ephesians 3:4: By which WHEN YOU READ, YOU MAY UNDERSTAND MY KNOWLEDGE in the mystery of Christ.
6. Beyond the written word is revelation knowledge. No matter how skillful you are in study of God’s Word, knowing all the Greek and Hebrew meaning, without the help of the Holy Spirit, you would only be accumulating Christian religious knowledge. Paul understood this and prayed for the Ephesians and Colossians that beyond knowledge, they will have revelation. The Pauline prayers are the secrets to revelation knowledge.
Ephesians 1:17-18: That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory may give to you
