Obeying instructions is as important as receiving it. Disobedience is worse than ignorance. Not knowing what to do is better than knowing what to do and throwing away all the great benefits that is embedded in it.
We did not know Abram’s age as at the time God called him however, in Genesis 11:26 to Genesis12:1-5, it was explained how Abram remebered what THE LORD HAD SAID and then obeyed at the age of 75. He could have been 40, probably 50, when The Word of The Lord came to him. He was peharps naive and afraid that he was going to lose his inheritance being the first son of the family; He did not realise that God had better plans for him. Abram’s supposed action to God’s call is what happens to many people after receiving the call of God as regards their purpose in life.
Attachment with people might cost one’s fulfillment in life. You are allowed to honour men but do not disobey God. God is no respecter of persons! Abram was probably eyeing the best of sheep and camel his father had or the few plots of land that would be transferred to him in Ur of Chaldean but God’s plan was to give the WHOLE of Canaan to his descendants as an inheritance. Abram was trying to secure his personal inheritance but God wanted to bring him into the inheritance of his whole generation.
God’s plan is different from your mum’s or daddy’s plan. God’s purpose for your life is unique to you. Abraham’s father named him Abram, but God made him ABRAHAM- father of nations. Your parents plan are incomparable to God’s plan for your life.
Paul in Galatians 1: 14-15 said, “when the Lord saw fit to reveal His son in me, I DID NOT CONFER WITH FLESH AND BLOOD neither DID I go up to Jerusalem but I retired into Arabia. (Paraphrased)”. You can’t please everyone and still try to stay in God’s will. God commanded us to honour all men including our parents, but honouring them does not necessarily mean you agree on life decisions. Holy Spirit is your guide in life. The best men can do is counsel and share experiences that can guide you in the journey of destiny.
Your walk with God is personal! No matter how long you have stayed in disobedience, it’s never too late to obey. You might have received an instruction long time ago and did nothing about it, and you are probably thinking God has given up on you but this is not so. God is merciful, the moment Abram began to walk in obedience, God didn’t remember all his past, he never mentioned it once. They were only wasted years for Abram, because the Bible never recorded any part of his life he lived in disobedience. His life began to matter the day he decided to obey. God was patient enough to allow him be the one through whom the seed of our Lord Jesus came from.
Abram had learnt his lesson, when the Lord said he should sacrifice Isaac, his only son. He didn’t hesitate. He did not give it a second thought. He didn’t even bother to tell Sarah. God even testified of him in the book of Genesis in regards his prompt obedience.
God is not only a God of second chance but of many chances. Embrace His instructions today and begin to walk in obedience and fulfilment.
