INSTRUCTIONS

instruction

(Gen 11:27-32, Gen 12:1-7).

Gen 12:1- Now the Lord HAD SAID to Abram: Get out of your country, from your kindred and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great and you shall be a blessing.

I love the scripture above but the part that got my attention most is the phrase ‘HAD SAID’. It is important to note tenses when studying scriptures.

Here, Abram was in Haran, he never had any special visitation or appearance of God in this particular city. There was no voice like the sound of many waters. It was only a moment of awakening.

A quick recap of what happened. Abram had been with his father Terah and other siblings and nephew Lot in Ur of Chaldeans. This was the exact place God spoke to him to leave his father’s house ( Stephen explained this in Acts 7:1-4) but he only received the instruction. He did nothing about it. Then his father took him and the rest of the family, they set out to Cannan but they eventually settled in Haran. It is like leaving Ife for Lagos, suddenly, you stopped at Ibadan and decided to dwell there. But you had received instructions from Ife but did nothing about it.

Suddenly his father, Terah died. I believe Abram was now alone, he had mourned, thought of the responsibility he had to assume due his father’s death being the first born of the family. That moment you want God to just say a word. That moment you are confused and don’t know where else to go and what to do next.

Then Abram remembered ‘THE LORD HAD SAID!’.

Many of us forget the last instruction we received but the we expect God to say another word and it seems like He is not talking. You need to sit and remember what He said last, go back to your journal to check the instructions left undone, that is your word for the moment. THE NEW INSTRUCTION YOU NEED IS THE LAST ONE YOU RECEIVED AND LEFT UNDONE.

We didn’t know Abram’s age when The Lord HAD SAID to him but bible records the time he decided to obey the instruction.

Gen 12:4: And Abram departed as The Lord had spoken to him ……And Abram was seventy five years old when he departed from Haran.

He could have been 50 when the Lord said or 40 or 30. It doesn’t matter how long you have stayed in disobedience, the day you decide to obey is the day your life begins to matter. The journey of Abram’s success began at 75!

Your fulfillment story begins the day you start walking in obedience to all of God’s instruction. It’s never too late to be on the right path. Begin to reflect now; what was the last instruction you received from God and left undone?

It could be the call of God on your life, it could be to change your location, it could be to start a business, it could be to increase your prayer time or start praying at night or to leave a relationship or say yes to the long awaited one. Whatever it is, it is time to OBEY! Obey and begin to see God at work!.

Proverbs 4:13: Take fast hold of instruction, let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
