One of the greatest gift a father can give to his children is sound marital counsel.Yes(Spiritual and Biological father)
Uncle Lot allowed his children marry strangers who didn’t know t Lord but Abraham understood that in order for the blessing to find true expression and continue in his lineage,marriage wasn’t to be played down,he instructed his chief servant to go all the way to Canaan and choose for his son(Isaac) among His own Kindred ( now,this is not a racial or tribal difference) .
The Canaanites women didn’t know the Lord so it would be an unequal yoke to marry from among them.
2 Cor 6:14- Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness and what communion hath light with darkness.
You don’t allow your children marry an unbeliever all in the name of wealth. Esau lacked this sound counsel and also married strangers but they frustrated the hell out of Rebecca so much that he had to petition Isaac to instruct Jacob so as not to make the same mistake.
Gen 26:34-35- Now Esau was 40 years old when he took as wife Judith the daughter of Beers the Hittite and Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite.And THEY MADE LIFE BITTER AND A GRIEF OF MIND AND SPIRIT FOR ISAAC AND REBEKAH( Their parents in law).
The Hittites were Cannanites.You should understand that when they don’t train a child in the way he should go,it will later boomerang on you.Just like Lot’s daughters slept with their own father.
Thank God Isaac and Rebekah were smart enough to learn their lessons on time,they quickly called Jacob to order not to fall into the same error.
Gen 28:1-2- So Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and commanded him,YOU SHALL NOT MARRY ONE OF THE WOMEN OF CANAAN, arise, go to Padanaram to the house of Bethuel,your mother ‘s father AND TAKE FROM THERE AS A WIFE one of the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.
Like I said,marrying from your kindred does not mean your natural lineage or someone from your hometown,it means your Spiritual lineage,the body of Christ which you belong, not an alien ( unbeliever) in the name of money or what is available within your comfort Zone like Lot’s daughters did. #Bewise
Uncle Lot got it wrong but we can get it right.
