I have seen christains who struggle in their walk with God, they are hot today, cold tommorrow, they share with you,how they used to pray 4-5 hours in a day,and could study bible like they took their daily meals. I get a lot of messages and questions in this direction, I decided to write on it.
It is not the design of God that we should be ‘once upon a time christain’, John 8:31- and Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him,If you ABIDE in my word, you are my disciples indeed.
‘Abide’ in this scripture is translated as ‘meno’ in Greek, it means to remain,to continue, to endure,to dwell,to tarry, not to depart.
It means God’s intention is that you continue the way you started out in faith, burning with zeal and desire to know him more. You know devil is a goat, when he sees such passion and desire to know God more,he introduces things that will distract you away from God’s presence.
Those distractions would sometimes be legitimate and some illegitimate, you begin to give yourself excuses for not studying the word, for not praying as you ought.well,no matter how far you have gone in the wrong direction, it’s not too late to return to the right path.
How?
1.Repent genuinely – the first step to freedom is knowing you have been enslaved, acknowledge your frailties and obtain God’s mercies,of course this has to be with boldness.
Heb4:16- Let us therefore come BOLDLY to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
2. Lay aside every weight:
You need to cut off from distractions, daydreaming on social media, gossip with friends ( detach from them if need be) the best set of people to move with are those who stir you unto good works.(Heb 10:24)
Iron sharpenenth iron, you need the company of those that would stir you to pray,to study, and fellowship more.
3. Get on your knees: the truth is no one always feel like praying, we pray because we know we ought to pray, Holy Spirit doesn’t pray for you when you are on your bed, asleep, He prays for you when praying with you. That is,when you start to pray, He supplies the utterance in tongues.
Luke 18:1-Then He spoke a parable to them, that men ALWAYS OUGHT TO PRAY and not to faint.
You faint, when you don’t pray.my dear,be determined, you can start with 30mins every day,and then increase to one hour, pray in tongues more, that is where strength lies, (1 Cor 14:4-He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifies and improves himself.) Jude 14..
You can pray with the following scriptures everyday : Ephesians 3:15-18, Col 1:9-11, Ephesians 1:16-18
4. Study The Word – this is the key to growth, you were born by the word(1 Peter 2:23),you need the same word to grow. The Word of God is food for your recreated human spirit.if you don’t feed your natural body for days, you will be affected, thin, diseased and so on,same goes for your spirit man.
5.Right diet
The reason some haven’t grown yet is because they feed on the wrong stuff, study the new testament for now, understand who you are in Christ Jesus, know what Grace has done for you,in you and is doing through you.You will understand the old testament better when you read Galatians, Romans and Hebrews.
You have so much to learn in the new testament, especially the epistles, about Christ and you, Holy Spirit and the Father. Understand the works of redemption, your salvation, righteousness, justification, remission of sins, inheritance in Christ, adoption as sons, Spirit of sonship, these and a lot more you would get from the new testament.
Acts 20:32- I commend you unto God and to the word of His Grace which is able to BUILD YOU and give you an inheritance among the saints.
You can read other materials that would add as suplements to your growth, Kenneth hagin and E.W kenyon books are some I can recommend for you.
6.Be planted in a Local church where Christ is preached and taught.Where Holy Spirit is given room, where speaking in tongues does not mean you are possessed of the devil, where their doctrines align with the scriptures. May you find one!
The five fold has been given for The ‘maturing of the saints’ ( Eph 4:11-13)
Consistency is key to these things.Spiritual growth requires discipline on your part.Make up your mind to grow, you can set a timetable for yourself, e.g wake up by 5, pray for 1 hour, study for 1 hour( 2 chapters of the epistle, a chapter of Kenneth Hagin’s book etc)
If you continue in these things, your progress will be evident to all.
