There was a topic that was much emphasized in sunday school, those early days, it was QUIET TIME.
Quiet time really is not the time you keep mute as such but the time you give your undivided attention to God in prayer, His Word and meditation. We grew in no time, it gave us an unusual discipline to study daily. Nothing else really mattered. This will never be out of vogue.
Spiritual maturity requires consistency, discipline and absolute intentionality. You don’t wish to grow, you put every effort into it. Your body cannot survive without constant feeding, so also your recreated human spirit needs the Word of God to grow.
Praying in tongues edifies your spirit man, meditation is not optional, it is highly necessary. Spiritual maturity is traceable to consistency in spiritual things.Study, pray, meditate and make confessions.
That you are in a relationship with God does not mean you are in fellowship with Him. Fellowship is simply a living relationship. When you spend time with God, you will always know what to do.
What to do at your quiet time.
1. Prayer
When you are fainting spiritually, it ,means your prayer life is going down. (Luke 18:1).
Mark 1:35: Now in the morning, HAVING RISEN A LONG WHILE BEFORE DAYLIGHT, He went out and departed to A SOLITARY PLACE; and there HE PRAYED.
The first thing Jesus did at His quiet time was to pray.
This was Jesus, Grace personified, having quiet time, he was already active in ministry, healing people, yes, He was very busy. But nothing took the place of communing with God from him. He wasn’t carried away with signs and wonders, the miraculous first happened in His place of prayer, before they took place in the physical. No wonder He said, Whatsoever I see my father do, that I do also, ‘I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him’ ( John 8:26)….Activity should never take the place of your fellowship with God.
Pray more in the spirit, this is what will build you up. 1 Corinthians 14:4(NET) :The one who speaks in a tongue builds himself up…….
Praying in tongues is not for special people, it’s for all believers. It builds you up. If you are not filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, kindly see your pastor or whoever can minister Him to you. If you are filled, spoke in tongues once and never continued, there is a lot you are missing out. You have a responsibility to stir it up daily.
I will never understand why people look for prayer contractors. You have the same righteousness, same Holy Ghost, same redemption and same right to the use of the name of Jesus. Whenever you pray, God hears (1John 5:14) and He cannot deny a righteous man. You are the righteousness of God in Christ, hence your prayer avails much.
When I don’t spend time with God, I do not feel guilty, rather I feel a longing, a drawing into His presence. When guilt sets in, it means you have been practising religion. If it’s a drawing, you are missing your fellowship with the Father.
That you sleep off in prayer doesn’t mean you are not spiritual, you just need more discipline. Don’t lie in bed to pray, tongue stroll, pace up and down in your room, read out scriptures loud and pray it. Spiritual things are not automatic, they are cultivated with much discipline.
When you are finding it difficult to pray, , makesure you company with those that will sharpen you again. You should cut off from things that distract you from Go’s presence including dysfunctional relationships or friendship. Your life is as good as the company you keep. Proverbs 27:17: Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
2. Study
Many don’t study because they don’t understand why they should. Here are some reasons you need to study.
1. The Word of God is food for your recreated human spirit. Your spirit needs the Word to grow.
2. God does nothing outside His Word and there is no need in your life that the Word cannot meet.
3. All things were made through the Word and without Him, nothing was made that was made(John 1:3). Whatever the Word cannot give you, you can’t get it.
4. The worlds were framed by the Word of God. Heb 11:3. You get to frame your life using the same Word.
