Slaying or Praying?

Why do we see less of the supernatural these days? It was so common in the early days of the church. Healings were common on the street. They didn’t have to attend a conference before they experienced signs and wonders. People got filled with the spirit on the spot they got saved. They didn’t have to wait for the next service. Love walk was the order of the day. They didn’t have to be compelled before they gave or helped people, everyone sold what they had and brought it to church. There was no need to raise an offering. Even the pagans knew they were in Christ.

Why do we see less today? Insults, abuse, dishonour is now trending. People no longer want to be called ‘spiritual’, they would rather slay than pray…….

It is still the same Holy Ghost, why are the expressions limited?

Unlimited is the power at work in us, but limited is the expressions that we see . Why? What is missing?

In Acts 3, Peter and John went to the temple to pray and met a lame man at the beautiful gate who asked alms from those who entered the temple. He asked alms from them also but Peter said: Look at us, silver and gold I do not have BUT WHAT I DO HAVE I GIVE YOU: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.

They didn’t rehearse this miracle, neither did the Holy Spirit revealed this to them prior to that time. That day was like every other day but there was something about them,.

Peter said, what I have I give to you You cannot give what you don’t have. THEY WERE CONSCIOUS OF WHAT THEY HAD.

We all have what Peter had, the name of Jesus, the power of the Spirit upon and within but there is something we lack that Peter had: the consciousness of these things.

A lot of Christians have the Holy Spirit within, we received power when we were baptized with the Spirit. A spirit filled christian is the powerhouse of God, so it is not power problem, but a ‘consciousness problem’. Many are not conscious of this great power at work in them. So, the expression of it is very limited. There is great power at work IN us but limited power is working THROUGH us.

How to give expression to the power of God in us

1. Prayer does not give you power, it makes power available. Praying in the spirit channels the power to where it is needed. You are already filled with power if you are filled with the Spirit (Acts 1:8). Praying in the spirit gives unlimited expression to this power. It is not a 30mins prayer, it is the CONTINOUS, HEARTFELT prayer of the righteous according to James 5:16b: The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available (dynamic in its working).

2. Forgive: Unforgiveness is like dirt that clogs the pipe of God’s power flowing through us. It hinders the flow of this power in us. Jesus said, we shall lay hands on the sick and they will get well, there are many sick folks around us that have not received their healing because we have refused to take our place. We have allowed unforgiveness denied our loved ones healing. God wants to help others through you but you need to let go of pain, hurt and ill feelings towards others. Be healed first, so you can heal others.

3. Cut off from distractions: For us to stay aware or conscious of God’s presence, we have to cut off weights, distraction and things that contend for our attention. God longs to fellowship with us. The essence of the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus was to reconcile us back into fellowship with Him. Do not let social media, dysfunctional relationships take God’s place in your life. Stay conscious of Him, at work, in class, at home, when you are cooking, talking or doing whatever.. God wants us to be always conscious of His presence. How well to do this is by praying in the Spirit always, under your breath sometimes, meditating scriptures, thinking about Him. Just let God be in your thought at all times, not the cares of this world or anxiety about tomorrow..

The flow of God’s power through you depends on you, not on God. God is waiting on you. He has put His Spirit within you, He has given His only begotten son for this purpose.

God is beckoning on men and women that would yield themselves to Him completely, people that would be lost in His presence without bothering how long they have been there or how many meals they skipped….. Nothing else matters than the savour of His presence.
