1Corinthians 2:9-12: but as it is written, eyes have not seen nor ear heard nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. BUT GOD HAS REVEALED THEM TO US BY THE SPIRIT. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in Him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now WE HAVE RECEIVED NOT THE SPIRIT OF THE WORLD BUT THE SPIRIT WHICH IS FROM GOD THAT WE MAY KNOW the things that have been freely given to us by God.
Holy Spirit has been given to every believer, THAT WE MAY KNOW. If you have not come to the knowing of your purpose, it’s because you don’t understand how the Spirit has been relating it to you.
The second way Holy Spirit leads us is by the INWARD VOICE. This is in two categories.
1. The voice of your spirit
2. The voice of The Holy Spirit.
The voice of your spirit is your conscience. The moment you became born again, your conscience also became pure. Your conscience serves as a discerning organ, it helps you differentiate what is right from what is wrong. Have you noticed when you just got born again and you probably missed it, something in you will not allow you rest until you either confess it or do the right thing, that is your conscience right there. Many times, we thought we heard the Holy Spirit, it wasn’t Him but it was our spirits. Holy Spirit leads us through our spirits, so if you heard your spirit tell you do something, go ahead and do it. It is accurate if it has not been seared. Will explain a seared conscience soon. The voice of your spirit is like a still small voice, if you would learn to listen to it, you will be guided in the right path.1 Corinthians 2:11a – for what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of a man which is IN HIM.
It is dangerous for an unbeliever to follow her conscience because it is unregenerated, so if you are yet to be born again, don’t expect to be led by the Spirit. Intuitively, you might know some things but it will not always be accurate.
2. The voice of the Holy Spirit on the other hand is more authoritative, If you heard Him speak, you would almost think, someone who sat next to you did. Few example from the Scripture, when the Lord called Samuel, He ran to Eli twice thinking he was the one that called (1Samuel 3:1-9). The voice of The Holy Spirit is as audible as the voice of the man sitting next to you. This is why I laugh when someone says Holy Spirit is a force or a wind. Does wind speak? Acts 13:1-2- Now in the church that was at Antioch, there were certain prophets and teachers…….as they ministered to the Lord, THE HOLY SPIRIT SAID……
Holy Spirit speaks in this atmosphere a lot of times, not when we are making petitions or supplication but when you minister to the Lord. Learn to be a worshipper.
It is not every voice you hear that is from God, some folks go like, the Lord told to me to start this but few years down the line, they say, it’s no longer God. This is why you must judge whatever voice you hear with the WORD of God. The Word of God is the voice of God, He won’t lead you outside His Word, you must be familiar with God’s Word.
That you got a word concerning something is not all there is to God’s leading, even devil can quote scriptures, just that he misinterpretes it every time. This is why you must be a student of God’s word, check if what you have heard is consistent in the scriptures, interpret it in the light of The new testament. If you can recognize The Word, you will recognize God’s voice, this was Samuel’s case. 1 Samuel 3:7-8- Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord NOR WAS THE WORD OF GOD REVEALED TO HIM, and The Lord called Samuel again the third time, then he arose and went to Eli and said, Here I am, for you did call me. Then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy.
God might not lead this way, so don’t go seeking to her voices or else you will hear demons and other strange voices. The primary way God will lead every believer is by the INWARD WITNESS, you have no right to seek that God should speak to you through an audible voice, everyone that has ever been led this way didn’t pray for it, it just came. Holy Spirit abides in your spirit, He passes God’s message on to your spirit either by the INWARD WITNESS or to your conscience. You are not to seek or follow voices except you have thoroughly examined it in the Word.
